Looking for something for a 12 gallon that is not going to blow water out the top of the tank. Would like something lower profile but and mp10 is just to much $$$$.

Tunze 6015 or 6020 is reliable and not expensive. Lower profile is in the eye of the beholder, but the lower profile, the more cost. These are not controllable, but you can turn them off or on a few times a day letting them run a few hours and then be off a few hours.

Tunze 6040 is a smaller pump with a controller.

I thought about a PH in my 12g at one point, but chose to upgrade and split the return pump instead.

IMO, tunze 6020 can be a bit much @ 660GPH. I have 3 in a 29 gal but only have them all on for kicking up things.

The 6045 has a control dial so you can adjust the flow

The Hydro Koralia nanos come on 240gph, 425gph & 565pgh. I had the 240s which produced a nice gentle flow.

If you want a cheap powerhead, hydor Koralia nano would be good for you. The only problem is that you cannot reduce the flow.
