For all you out there with peninsula tanks, where do you place your powerhead? Would placing them on the end opposite the overflow increase efficiency of the "debris clearing" capability of your overflow albeit at an aesthetic cost? Is placing it only on the overflow end sufficient and most pleasing to the eye? Anyone do both???

I run two Neptune WAVs on the overflow end of my Red Sea Peninsula 650. I run a MP40 at the opposite end. Also have a RFG nozzle for my return. Without the MP40 on the opposite end of the overflow, that end would not see enough flow for debris cleaning. That's unless I only had two big gyres on the overflow end running at 80-100% to stir things up.

I run a gyre on both ends on my 120g.

I have two mp40's on the overflow end and 1 mp40 centered on the opposite end. It's not really that intrusive, but depending on the length of your tank and if you are going to keep sps, I would recommend it.

Great question - I had a similar one a while back has I finish setting up my upgrade which is also a peninsula with an external overflow on the side. Originally I was going to place a Gyre XF230 on the far side, non overflow, and have the returns on the other. Then pick up another Gyre XF230 during the next sale. Since then I had a change of heart and picked up two SeaSwirls. Going to split the tank in the middle and place them opposite and see how that goes. I may also switch it up and place one on each corner of the tank starting with two opposite corners, far and near, and see if I need the Gyre. I am thinking I won't. SeaSwirls generate some pretty good flow and have coverage to spare. If I need another pair it will be easy to add.

At least that is my plan for now. I am not one who likes power heads in the tanks.

I am looking at an 8 ft peninsula and thing gyre xf280 on overflow side. Ideally would like on the opposite side but not sure if I want to look at a magnet.

Synced or anti-synced or other?

Alternating gyre mode using the new controller. Used to run synced when I was controlling with Apex.

...but not sure if I want to look at a magnet.

I understand completely. When I originally put it together, my only goal was to not see a power head. I actually started with what turned out to be a poorly designed closed loop. I eventually added the first gyre to the overflow side mounted in the overflow box. I begrudgingly ended up adding the second gyre on the other end. All I can say is you eventually get used to it.
