Hello everyone, hey I have a 75 gallon reef tank with 11 palys and zoas, Duncan, a RBT, mushrooms, and one stylophoracoral! I currently have my power heads placed with one hydor 600gph on the top left kinda pointing up a smige , a small hydor 400gph on the bottom back right corner pointed along the back, and a marineland mj400 that seems super powerful on the front right bottom facing not blowing all the way up but tilted a little towards the length of the tank. I have a little dead spot in the back left corner where my Tidal 110 hob filter is placed and I just can't seem to place the poweheads in the right position to get that dead spot fixed. Also, the small hydor seems like it always has something settled right under it everyday and detritus always on the sand bed. I'm going to set up a overflow box with a sump soon for better filtration and it should add a little more flow but does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this dead spot and also the detritus that settle on the sandbed everyday? Or any suggestions to re aquascaping? Lol Im kinda broke as I can get good power heads that I need so I gotta work with what I have, thanks in advance!

Here is my 75 power heads are in this position
|SL...R...... L..............RP.....R...SR|

SL= side left
RP= return
LP=back left powerhead
RP= back right powerhead.

I found this to be the most effective as the detritus is constantly swirling note that the two side powerheads are pointed directly at each other creating a turbulent flow almost like a wave motion for the others are spinning in a cyclone from front to back.

I only use 2 MP40's in my tank. Both are on the sides and placed about 1/3 down from the top water line. With all the different flow patterns the MP40's give you to play around with, I haven't had much of an issue of dead spots. I also use loc-line to split the return. I have them point to the sides and towards the back of the tank to help with those "usually" dead spots. I know these power heads are not cheap, but well worth the investment in terms of total water movement.

I want MP40’s so bad... but I also need another kessil! Why reef gods why!

Thanks everyone for the tips, yeah mp40s would be so nice! Buuuuut i m currently looking for work as I got laid off recently! Sucks bad, but when that money comes I'm guessing mp40s are the way to go huh?
For what I have, I really try to keep it where the anemone won't move BC he has finally found his spot but its towards that back left corner where the dead spot is by the filter lol not to mention the zoanthids throwing fit when I move power heads around! Christopher Davis, I only have 3 power heads, but I will try what you suggested! Thanks
