So I've looked In to the gyre 150 and I like it and would love to try it, only problem is my 125 gallon dual overflow takes up a lot of the side and I only have about 10 inches for a power head. The gyre is 11.8 inches and I was wondering if I had the gyres vertical if that would creat the same amount of flow compared to it being horizontal. If not I was looking at mp40s also and would like to hear your suggestions of how many I need. Thank you

If you want to consider an alternate, I'd look at Tunze's stream and nanostream powerheads vs the vortechs. Better for a long, narrow tank.

Any certain model you would suggest and how many?

6040 controllable works up to 135 g tanks and the controllable feature allows you to control the flow based on your needs. I believe they are about $150 new.

Should I get 2 of these or?

Just went to MarineDepot. They have the 6045 available for about $80. Looks interesting.

Tunze is not a one-size-fits all kind of operation, so it can pay dividends to sit down and plan out the flow you want a little bit. Play around with some possibilities on paper.

If you just want an economic option that starts you off with good flow, a four-pack of 6045's (maybe with one or more stream rocks) would be great...and you can always upgrade one or more of those later.

But if you want to get into the nitty-gritty a little bit...

One consideration is that at the beginning the tank is fairly empty and fewer pumps can achieve good flow. As time goes on you will need more sources of flow to eliminate new dead spots.

Another is how badly you want your flow to be hidden. All of their pumps are very "aim-able", so they can be placed very flexibly around the tank to be out of view.

They also make a realistic rock housing for the large and small stream pumps so you can hide a pump within your rock work.

The newer 6020 and 6040 are designed with a vertical orientation so they can be placed down behind the rock structure.

There's also controllable or not controllable so you just put them on a timer.

A pair of stream pumps with one on each end wall is a traditional deployment.

I wouldn't spend more than necessary. I have. 6045 to create a more realistic ocean flow plus a less expensive powerhead to get the dead spots. More than I need.
