I am getting back into the reef hobby after about 8 years. I purchased a 150 gallon six foot tank.

Does anyone have a recommendation on size and brand of power heads. It will be mixed reef. Curently looking at a mp40 or a tunze.

Just check the glass thickness to make sure those powerheads are going to stick.

Do you know what corals you are doing yet?

This can definitely sway you towards one direction to either get more flow or less.

Ecotech MP40s are expensive. I have 4 on a 300 gallon and they run and run and run. They are very durable and provide nice programmable flow. They will work for a variety of glass thicknesses. Just look up the thickness ranges they work at and see if your 150 will foot the bill. I do not run mine at 100% - I just run them at a bit less. At 100%, they run kinda hot (at least to my way of thinking). I run them at about 90% and there they are just kinda warm.

I would recommend icecap 4k gyres, 4 of them would be plenty of flow and a fraction of the cost of ecotech!

I would always stay away from ecotech personally as i think they overpriced and too many issues with replacing wetsides. Unless you just really want no cords in the tank.

Tunze are very high quality hard to go wrong there.
Tunze or Nero 5's.

Also would suggest a gyre (long as your willing to keep up on cleaning).

I'm also not impressed with the Ecotech MP series of powerheads.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am probably going with two tunze 6105. I post pics and a break down of the equipment after i get everything set up.
