What Up!
Quick question: I have 2 accela pumps that im looking to replace; they get 266 gph. (came with used setup) I have been eyeing the MJ1200s, but maxi jets are a little cheaper. Does it matter in comparison of the two brands? Both I believe are giving 295 gph... just looking for advice with experience on both products. Is there any other power heads you can recommend in this price range? TIA

Well there are 2 different max-jet 1200's right now. One is made by Marineland and the other is made by Cobalt.
I've read the one by Cobalt is a better pump. I haven't bought a maxi-jet in a very long time. I have a couple that have to be 10+ years old.

There are some other brands you might look at. A couple are Tunze, and Sicce Syncra Silent pumps.
Both probably a little more, but are dependable brands.

Are you using 2 return pumps?

Here's the history on MaxiJets....

The "original" MaxiJets were quality pumps. About four years ago (I'm terrible with time....might have been 2 years or 6 years), they decided to find a new manufacturer (to increase profit....they must be Ferengi ), and the "new" MaxiJets were not even close to the quality of the old pumps. Now the good news is that someone continued to sell the original Maxijets, but they are now called Cobalts. These are the original Maxijets, and are quality pumps. What I find amusing is that they still carry a piece of MaxiJet in that they have MJ in their name.....i.e. Cobalt MJ1200.

yes. i am currently running both 24-7 with addition to 2x Koralias (240) & (565). I am getting diatom blooms on my sand bed and im thinking low flow.... on top of this build being new. (5 months roughly) I don't have to explain how annoying it is and they have the nerve to disappear at night or when my lights go down... ;Rage. I wanna rearrange my powerheads and I know I will need to create more flow on the substrate so i wanna do the max flow I can with out making dunes of the sand. Im gonna start with the returns because I know they will die soon anyway as i bought them used with the setup.
