hi all,
is it better to run the powerheads (wavemakers) with the light schedule for the 9 or 10 hrs a day or is it ok to run for 24hrs non- stop except when feeding ?

Does the sea stop at night? :)

I just keep mine on the same schedule 24/7

The reason is im using Tunze Powerheads and found out that the have a sensor that could be attached to the lights and it will shut off the powerheads when the light are out at night and then turns them back on when the lights turn on in the morning! I was wondering why would Tunze introduced this sensor at the first place, having known that powerheads should not be off except when feeding ?! Didnt make sense to me either but what is Tunzi’s point here !

are you sure it turns it off at night? I have one that has a "night mode" and it just changes it to be direct instead of pulsating?
However, I agree with GbroadBridge, the ocean doesn't stop at night why would the power head :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Countless systems were successful prior to programmable wave makers so it’s not really an issue.

I do run two ‘slack tide’ periods on my Nero though. Might as well use the features that you pay for.

When I first got Nero's which have a multitude of settings and schedules, I went a bit nuts with all sorts of programming. Storms occasionally, lightning, the whole kit.

Sometimes the fish freaked out and on one memorable occasion somehow the wavemakers got a real back and forwards synchronised motion going which created a tsunami which overflowed the tank when I was at work.

Ever since then I just leave them on random flow 24/7 :)

Sometimes I wish manufacturers would leave out the gimmicks and concentrate on reliability and provision of devices with replaceable spare parts.
