Hey all,

My Neptune Wav's are a bit over 2 years old, and one of them died. Went through the standard troubleshooting/ typical Apex troubleshooting...vinegar soak, swapped impellers, swapped ports, updated firmware, removed and re-added, etc. No luck. Just received a replacement Wav, and after being wet for less than 12 hours, that Wav is not operating. On inverse it would not spin at all. Went through similar steps, swapping impellers, updating firmware, removing re-adding, etc. Seems like it would work until the program changed, then it would stall for 5-15 seconds, several times a minute. Thought it was related to speed changes, but set it on constant mode 20% last night and this morning it is doing the same thing.

I am done with the Wav's. I could work with Neptune on the new pump, but feel like how long before the other pump goes?

Looking for opinions.
-The Wav's replaced MP40QD's. Like the MP40s, but not enough flow for a 6' tank IME.
-Would love MP60's but not really interested in laying out that kind of cash at the moment.
-Original pump on this tank was a Gen 1 Gyre when they first came out. Was noisy (assume that has been improved), and didn't really like the lack of control over the flow.
-Also have a Jabeo RW8 and RW4 (I think) that I used in between and keep as spares. Not really interested in going that route. I get why people like them, and get why other people don't, I'm just not really interested in using those pumps as the primary powerheads in my tank.

So that has me looking at the Octo Pulse 4. Thinking about replacing the defective Wav with one now, adding in a second/ running it through my Apex down the road.

Thoughts on the Octo Pulse pumps?
Experiences with them?
Any suggestions on other pumps that I should be considering?

IMO MP40s are good enough for 6’ tank, but you have to be careful about placement and settings. If you place them such that they work against each other, then I agree they aren’t enough. Also if the flow pattern changes every 5 seconds or you run them on short pulse, they never get a chance to really get a large mass of water moving. When I added my second MP40 I actually cut my flow in half until I optimized placement and programming.

Could be. I felt like the flow kinda fell off at around 36-40", but to be fair I was running them primarily in Reef Crest mode.

The flow and the native Apex integration pulled me over to the Wav's. Like them, but have had enough problems to look elsewhere now.
