I have a 90 Gallon reef tank, no corals yet. When the LFS installed my system they never installed a power head. All I have is the return which provides very minimal circulation. Without breaking the bank could someone recommend a power head?

Also what GPH do I need? How many power heads for this size tank?

Thanks

I agree with above, its a very difficult question to answer.

The GPH depends on what kind of animals you want to keep, the powerhead itself depends if you want one or two strong ones instead of 3-4-5 smaller powerheads. Some powerheads just sit there, others are completey controllable from your phone, some work via bluetooth, some work from the web. Or, for a big tank like yours, maybe you should look at a gyre instead of a powerhead. How much you want to spend is a very important factor.

There is so much to consider when looking at powerheads

There is a good article series here about tank flow.

Basically, depending on what type of corals you want to keep will determine how much flow you need in the tank. As for what type. For a mid-size tank I like Current USA wave pumps. They are very controllable and reasonably priced.

I use 2 of the jebao ow40 I think? Been years since I bought them for my 90g. I'd recommend these over any of the higher priced options.
