HI Reefers

now that i have some life in my 275L tank, 6 redlegged hermit crabs and 2 cleaner shrimp, i think it is time to sort out the water flow.

I was loking at what size power heads i need as a first point but also whether to add a wave maker?

i had seen the D & D Ocean Pulse Du Wavemaker:

http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/o...-duo-wavemaker

and

Hydor Koralia Evolution Powerheads

which all looked ok
, but thought I would ask the experts there opinions first.

any thoughts on this mix or the individual components or alternatives.

thanks

Jason

After having bought two different controllers and and many powerheads, having only to done what I considered in the first place and buying a Vortech for each of my tanks, I would consider doing this. I thought I would save money with stuff other than Vortech and ended up spending much more. In my experience, Vortech pumps produce healthy flow patterns that are difficult, if not impossible to produce via controllers and powerheads.

I have used koralia evolutions and that controller together and over time, my koralias would regularly not start or start backwards and one of them broke. Having these powerheads on that controller is better than just powerheads without the controllers, but the vortechs and some of the higher end controllers and powerheads increase and decrease the speed of the pump, rather than just turning them off and on, producing much more turbulent and random flow, which corals and fish like.

I'd go with an MP40...should give you enough flow depending on how much rock and coral you have. If you wanted to use that controller and evolutions, I'd get the biggest powerheads and place them on opposite sides of the tank, facing toward each other and a little toward the surface.

I was worried someone might suggest that, but actually that was where I started. So looks like it might be the best way forward and really like the idea of less in the tanks and the control and flow looks very impressive. So my question would be is it better to go with 2 x MP10's or a single MP40, as i said the tank is 275ish L but did not mention the dimensions it is in a 70 x70 x 70cm cube

thanks
