Would an icecap “gyre” and an mp40 provide sufficient flow for a 75g? I have an eheim 1262 pump as well providing flow, but was just wondering if these two would be sufficient or overkill. I was also maybe hoping that I could just get away with one of the two? Mostly have LPS and softies in this tank, nothing too crazy. Thanks!

By the numbers, a single MP40 provides enough flow even for SPS in your size tank but it's hard to get it in all the right areas to be sufficient. You could start with an Icecap 3K on one end and then along with your return pump decide if you need to add some flow in any particular area.

I had a single MP40 on my 75 gal mixed reef and added a second, not because I needed more power but because I wanted more "even" coverage throughout the tank. With a single MP40 the flow was too high near the powerhead and not high enough on the other end of the tank. PUtting the MP40 on the back in the middle caused too much flow to hit the front panel and too much sand movement for my liking, with dead spots on both ends.

One on each end is perfect, although mine top out at 45%. You could possibly do 2 MP10s, I haven't tried it.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I am going to take out the mp40 then and but in just the gyre. It is an icecap gyre 3k. It seems to be provide ample flow. Is it best to angle it at live rock? or Does it really matter, I feel like a lot of detritus can settle on the rocks that I have to vaccum out.

I have 2 PP-8 running on low and its a lot of flow, I like it. I plan for a sps heavy reef so you can get away with PP-4 pumps. They are good pumps for the money you save and are fairly silent.

I always pointed one end a little towards the water and the other pointed towards the rocks.
