Powerheads for a 55 gallon tank.

How many powerheads should I have in a 55 gallon tank I currently have one, and what would be the best way to position them? Also any recommendations on powerheads I should buy? Thanks.

What are the dimensions of your tank?

I have zero experience with coral. I am setting up my first saltwater tank. I went with Aqamai. If you have the cash for it the amount of control is great.

And place it in the middle?
I keep all of my power heads filters and heaters all on one side as to not disturb the beautiful reef looking vibe. So like this

48 in x 13 in x 20 in not sure if that last dimension is right, but its a standard 55 gallon tank

In that case, I would recommend mounting them on the sides of the tank unless you want to purchase more so you can mount them on the back. Also if you want a cheaper option I would recommend Hydor pumps for 40$. I have had mine for a few months and they are very reliable.

To the OP, if I did t have Aqamai I’d have Hydor. Hydor makes Aqamai. If I ever needed a second power head I’d just get a Hydor.

Again I have no experience with salt water but lots with fresh water. Hydor is a great company
And were a steal before their price hike

I have a pair of Jebao PP-4's in the 75 on either end of the tank about 3-4" down from the surface. They are set at 50% in alternating pattern with a 30 second cycle. These are more than enough for a full mixed reef tank with lots of lps in it. I have run these for nearly two years and no issues with any corals and even the sps I have in the tank are happy.
The PP-4 is enough power, or would the PP-8 be better?

That’s odd because I have a 55gal tank but more of a cube then a rectangle,,mine is
30w x 18d x 24h

That is interesting. That would be so nice to have because the 13in width makes it so hard to aquascape.

I'm really enjoying the maxspect xf350 i just put on my 80 gallon. If you are thinking one of these, I would go with the 330 as the 350 is almost too much for my 80.

Curious about what price hike?
