Hey folks! Coming here to gather some info and hopefully make a better informed choice.

I’m setting up a RedSea Reefer 525xl and can’t use my old power heads because of glass thickness. I wanted to use the new Nero5 but after some reviews they seem to be out of the question unless they come out with a stronger magnet. I’d like to stay away from Ecotech as well iv had plenty of their power heads Rust out badly within 6-12 months on me. Another option was a gyre style but everyone complains about how loud they are.

So I’m just curious what people are using on those slightly thicker tanks. Heck I’d like to even know which ones you tried and gave up on because they didn’t work or how noisy they were. if anyone has some options that I should look into please let me know.

Thanks for your knowledge and reply’s!

5/8” glass? Tunze, WAV, reef octopus, maybe even rossmont would work.

Most of the larger powerheads can handle the thicker glass. My Tunze, Aquamedic, Gyre stuff all can handle 5/8 no problem.

I use rossmont MX series will go to 3/4 in thick and they have magnet add ons that will go even thicker.
