I have 55gb cube (24Lx24Hx20W) and currently have two sea swirl oscillating water return corrected to my return pump which is running at around 35% power. I can increase the flow rate of the return pump but the water coming down the drain gets pretty loud and is coming down too fast. Would it make sense to add couple of power heads and remove the sea swirl, or is there an advantage of keeping them in addition to powerheads?

Yes, by all means add some powerheads. I run about a 50 times turnover in my SPS tank. None of my fish, even the slow swimmers ever has any trouble. Power heads that deliver variable flow are better but they are also more $$$$. Having 2 power heads allows you more even coverage for the tank.
