PowerHeads - Tunze

So I have WAV powerheads right now...they are really nice and powerful.

I was curious what most people have for Tunze powerheads....I hear a lot of good things about them.

I have a 220 gallon tank and I don't know much about if anything about the Tunze powerheads....if I were to switch, what model would you recommend?

What dimensions is your 220?

If it's a 6-footer, then 2 Turbelle® stream 6105's would be a really nice base.

A couple Turbelle® stream 3's would also make a good base, but totally different style. Check out YouTube to see videos of some installations to get an idea how they work. (Similar to, but much larger than, the 6020 and 6040 if you happen to be familiar with those pumps.)

I have been disappointed with the WAV's longevity. So when one died last summer I replaced it with the Tunze stream 3 (6150). I love it. and it comes with a 5 year warrantee!

The WAV's are getting some bad reviews lately on another thread on here....failing and some bad customer support issues.

I've been considering the 6105s for my 200 display. I currently have 2 gyres, but hate cleaning them all the time and feel like they never go back together as good as new. I got a really good deal on a 6095, so I'm trying that one out as supplement first, before going all in. If I like it then I will likely purchase 2 6105s.

Edit - the 6105s come with both a normal and wide flow cage, which a lot find useful for different setups. My 6095 is coming in today, I'll let you know what I think of it when I get it setup

Just to note; 2 different powerheads are being discussed here: The Tunze 6105 has a round shape and has the 2 cages as described above. The Tunze 6150 is also known as the Stream 3, it has a longer shape, mag-lev construction and the 5 year warrantee. The price difference is about $50 between them. Other specs can be found on various sites.

On my last 240 I bought a pair of Tunze 6105's and the Tunze controller. They were a year old when I bought them.
I used them for 8 years until that tank was taken down. I sold them to a friend who is still using them almost 4 years later.

I have some old Tunze powerheads from before they went to the propellers, and they still work and are in use in a live rock holding tank. I also have some old Stream 6000's as well. Well made stuff that's built to last.

I currently run two 6095s in my 75 reef and love them. I've also used the 6105 and the wide flow is fantastic (and I run a Tunze skimmer on my reef too). Their customer support is solid as well.

I also have a Tunze 6060 and a 6080 that I bought used several years ago. I have no idea how old they are.
