I was at the LFS in Hoover, and saw these power head that were the store brand. They were much cheaper and want to get your opinions on them before I consider to buy one. Thanks. Also as far as water test kits go, what all do in need to start out with? so I have to get the big expensive one or start out with the one that test for ph, ak, and ca?

What were the powerheads called? We can't tell you to get them or not if we don't know what they are and there gph haha. Can we have some info on your tank (i.e size, etc.)? Most people like to use Koralia's. They came out with the new "Evolution" series. My dad got the 1050 for his 75g and it blows like a hurricane, lil too much flow. You can still buy the Koralia nano, 1, 2, 3, and 4 for pretty cheap. I bought the K1 off Amazon for $25 shipped. People also like Ecotech Vortech's. I am going to order one today to be exact haha. But they come in 3 different sizes: mp10, mp20, mp 40w. The mp10 is for 5-55g tanks. Most people say there is no difference between the Mp10 and 20. Except you can upgrade the 20 to a 40w. The w stands for wireless. I haven't ever heard a bad review about them except some people say they are noisy and some people say the are quiet.

As for test kits, you will need to test for: Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia, pH, Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium. You will also need a hydrometer or refractometer to test salinity. I use API test kits and they work great. I have heard a lot of people (on different forums) say that they use API for Nitrate, Nitrites, Ammonia, and pH. Then they use Salifert for calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. I haven't heard any bad reviews about them.

Please don't just listen to me. Most of this is just what I have heard and read, not experienced personally. Maybe someone with more experience on the products will chime in.

Where is this store at? I thought Hoover only had Aquarium Designs that moved.

Thank you for the responses, but what I was really looking for was is that brand ok or has anyone had any experiences with them.

The next time I am in there I will look at them. I think I know what your talking about but have no experience with them.

My dad has a 1050 in his 75g and it blows the crap out of his corals. It's like a hurricane in there. I would get 2 750's. Or and Mp40w :D
