Hello , I was wondering if this was too much. I bought these two powerheads but they’re huge and take up a chunk , do I need two for my nuvo fusion pro 20 ? I also woke up to it blasting a patch in the sand. Any pointers ?

If it’s doing this on lowest setting, is too strong. Try running one and reflect off the glass so that it creates a gyre effect for total water movement

Those look like the Hydor Koralia 1350 GPH non-controlled power heads. If so, I'd say they're a bit much. Jebao makes a full line that are programable and are affordable. They will also have a much smaller profile. They're not top of the line, but should suit your needs.

Welcome to R2R by the way.

In addition to what has already been said, your power heads should be pointed up towards the surface to create agitation rather than down towards the sand. That will greatly increase the oxygenation of the water and also help to prevent sandstorms.

I put mine about 1/3 of the way down on the back in the corners, pointed up and in towards the front center of the tank so that the flow collides near the middle.

hth!

And I love the way you have the tank standing on edge! How do you keep the water from spilling out?:D

I am assuming you picked them up at a great price. Until you have the funds for a smaller powerhead you might consider using just one, use low setting (increase if necessary), direct it straight across the tank, and raise or lower it to maintain some surface agitation as Billdogg suggested. Depending on the type of coral you want to keep you may want to figure out the "turnover" rate (gph/tank volume) at the various powerhead speeds (include your return pump in the calculation). I keep a mixed tank with SPS dominate with a max turnover rate of 65x that drops to 40x during the night. LPS or soft corals would be lower. I have seen SPS tanks as high as 100x.

I had bought them simply off the fact that it was recommended in the 5 minute series , so I had bought two , but I saw one at petco for like 130 , and it looked almost like the $300 one mentioned in the video with the wave maker , but thank you ! I’ll have to buy a different one I suppose or just use one as said previously

I’m new to tanking so the turnover ratio is something I’m not familiar with . I just bought two bc in the 5 minute series guide, he recommended two pointed at each other in front of the rock , but you think I’ll be fine with buying just one expensive one ? It’s only a 20 gal
