I have noticed that when my PPE are going to create a new polyp that they begin to look all sickly and close up retract the skirts. They really look bad, then fairly large new polyps start to open off the sides and they start opening normal and return to thier vibrant selves....Has anybody else had there polyps do that when growing new polyps.

I have a 5 polyp frag that started this middle of last week, now I have once all new polyp open I will have 9 polyp frag...One polyp even popped out 2 polyps at once.....Just wondering it if is just mine or if someone else has seen this. I was worried at first cause they really looked bad. But today they are normal and new polyps are opening.

i've heard that before from someone else.. i don't know about the sickly look but i do remember them tellimg me theirs closed up whenever a new head popped out too

Do you have pics? I have a frag that does the same. Its just that one that does it. They look horrible when it happens .

I will try and get one but they are at the end of doing it so you might not see it....I will definantly take some next time for updating this thread.

I just wish I could get my frickin' PPE to grow. I have had it for a little over a year and it is still all by it's lonesome:sad:

i feel your pain roshi.. i've had my single polyp for about 5 months and it's still by itself also.. doesn't it get lonely?

I have two different groups of PPE and one is beautiful and is on the bottom of the tank. The other one is up on rocks and is turned inside out right now..Don't know why. Debbie

I went to take a picture yesterday and all are back to normal.....So I will wait till they do it again and shoot a pic......Haven't really had them do the inside out or the pulling the skirt back thing.....I have had others do it just not my PPE.

Single polyp PPE's will almost always require a lot of patience and babying to get them to grow. They really take a long time to get going.

I've seen the same thing with my PPE's. They really had me on a rollercoaster at first, always closing up and looking sickly; birth pains I guess. When I first got mine, I started with four polyps and in a month they had popped off six new polyps, all big. One of them did sprout two at once as well. I really think the main reason people have such trouble is they usually only get one or two polyps (that's the way a lot of places frag them too), and it just leaves them with a smaller resource base. Tough, though, since they are so spendy. I got my frag in a trade. I wouldn't have paid $200 for that frag.

I have had a single polyp frag of PPRPE for over 2 years now, with no new polyps at all!

Join the club Rev!! I've got a couple of those cooking in the frag tank as well!! Ha...Maybe if we put ours next to each other it will trick them into budding out a new baby.

azurel how long were they sickly looking for

About 3-4 days straight.....I started out with 1-2 polyps 3-4 years ago and got no growth the first 2 years or so. Then a major growth spurt, then nothing till last week. Now they have doubled what I had.

That also happen to me with my ding dangs, first I taught they were melting on me cause they looked deflated and really stress out, after like about a week they look back to normal with a new baby, on PPE'S I had a 3 polyp frag and in less than 3 months I had 12 polyps but then I moved them to see them better bad idea they melted on me in less than 3 days I think, lesson learned if they are happy leave them alone.

My PPE do this as well. The adult that has the new bud closes for a few days then once the new baby opens it opens back up also looking as good as ever. Mine have done this from day 1, i've grown my colony from 1 polyp to 30 now :D

I have seen it happen many time with my ppe colony. My orange people eater multiply the same way. They almost look worrysome when they look real sickly but all of a sudden one two or even three polyp emerge from the side. the whole process from starting to look icky to icky to new polyps opening and looking fine is about 8 days. I have also noticed if the start to multiply and are moving over jagged rock or jagged superglue they look bad, but once there moved or multiplyed they look great.

Also I have never seen ppe's turn inside out, you mean color or the polyp actualy like pukes its self out?

They were fine then 2 of them started doing it again and more polyps have popped out. So I have went from 5 polyps to 10 in a matter of 2 weeks. One polyp even popped out 3 polyps. No wonder it looked so bad.

The inside out thing is when the oral disk cones outward and the skirt pulls down....

The inside out thing sounds scary. I am not sure I want to see that. I have about 400 polyps all different kinds of people eaters and about anothe 600 polyps of different zoanthids. That would scare the hell out of me.
