You don't test TDS of saltwater. TDS= total dissolved solids, and you SHOULD have a lot in saltwater (since you just DISSOLVED a bunch of salt)...

Wait, you used tap water to mix your saltwater? Did you at least add dechlorinator first?

I tested before it was 0 and after I added salt tested again
Your TDS meter must be off because it should be a lot higher than that after mixing. JK :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

0 TDS before mixing and do not test after mixing.. no point as saltwater contains 70+ different major and minor elements which will show on a TDS meter into the thousands of ppm.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

What else do you have in the tank besides saltwater?

Oh, and to measure salinity you need either a hydrometer, a refractometer or a salinometer with the proper calibration solution to ensure you are getting proper readings.

You need to stop now and don't do anything else until you have a proper hydrometer or refractometer. This is the most basic element of your aquarium we're talking about (the water). If you aren't prepared to even check salinity, you're no where near prepared for all the things that come next.
