I’ve had a small potters angel for a month now. He was eating mysis at the store but will only graze in the display. He’s possibly eaten a hammer & working on my button coral. Tank is a 240, 2 years old & plenty of algae.

I’m debating on using Prazi in the display. I don’t see any signs of flukes, no head shaking or heavy breathing. He is on the thin side. Could he have flukes or is something else going on?

I’ve tried numerous flakes & pellets soaked in garlic. He ignores clams on the half shell. Only saw a few bites of nori taken, no one else in the tank will touch it. Pretty much the only thing I haven’t tried is live black worms & I don’t think we have a source in the Florida panhandle.

thanks!

I would say prazi is pretty harmless on a reef. I just did a double treatment on my Display with no ill effects after adding a new purchase that did not go through proper care. Bubble coral, torches, frogspawn and RBTA were mad on day one. A lot of the fish were immediately flailing, likely due to the flukes releasing themselves. I saw no loss of life to any crabs or snails. I would have preferred to do the treatment on a qt system but that was not an option. Just follow the directions on the bottle.

Based on the symptoms it does not sound like flukes but possibly internal parasite. try to look at its crap lol A foolproof way to verify flukes is a freshwater dip for 3-5 minutes.

I’ve done Prazi in my reef before too. I’ve never lost fish from it.All of my fish have really good color too including the potters.

I’ve seen him poop once, typical long green/brown poop from eating algae. He might just prefer eating my coral ugh

Glad to know Prazi is reef safe. What about General Cure which contains Prazi?

I’ll also be getting Ruby Reef Rally and Polyp Lab Medic, not sure about their effectiveness though.

I would not personally use any meds on my display …. even ones reputed to be reef safe. The potters angel is notoriously difficult to get eating so i don't really see logic in assuming yours is not because of some internal parasites. I have had a few over the years and all of them sustained on grazing for the first few months under my care.

Thanks. I’ll just let him be & treat for anything.

This is my second potters. The first one I had many years ago was never a problem eating & lasted several years before I lost him in a power outage. I know how hard it is to get them eating but this one ignores everything even Rods fish eggs. I’ll just pull the 2 corals he’s eating & keep trying different food. Thanks
