Now made by Fritz Aquatics. I just hope they didn't change the chemical formulation, as Coppersafe was great stuff back in the day. They did something different to Maracyn 1 & 2 - as it now turns the water very cloudy. I also miss the Vitamin B complex that used to be added in as an appetite stimulant. o_O

Never had any cloudy color to the water. The vitamin C was taken out do to the end user buying cooper just for that. You can always use VC while mixing the food. (Works better).

Brook & velvet usually shows in 3-4 weeks max, with the first week or two being more the norm. A fish with internal parasites will usually have a shrunken belly and white stringy poop. A fish with gill flukes will often display behavioral symptoms (yawning, head twitching, scratching targeting the gill area and lethargy), but you can check for flukes at any time just by performing a 5 min FW dip.

Ich is the problem. It can harbor inside the gills, almost indefinitely, and display little to no symptoms.

Ok, humblefish, I have read your article and parts of it before and yes it is extremely helpful! For one, I was NOT going to Qt at all but you have certainly given me enough facts to make me question that...
My QT is now week #2 however, no meds. Yet.
Knowing that ick can rear its ugly head anytime I can't stress over that. As you know I went through that a few months ago..
SO, 3 to 4 weeks for Brook and Velvet and some parasites will be known by then due to sick fish symptoms/appearance. So I am thinking QT for 4 weeks of observation and if everyone is healthy looking getting fat and eating good with no sign of disease Ill transfer into DT.
If someone shows any signs of illness, Ill treat accordingly and start the QT clock over again! Does that make any sense?
I know 72 days for ick and some say 3 or 4 months However, 4 weeks of healthy fish in QT with no sign of sickness then transfer I hope really does have some merit!

@JVH There are only two diseases (I know of) capable of NOT showing visible physical symptoms in a 4 week time frame: ich & gill flukes. Both can harbor inside a fish's gills, out of sight. However, the following key behavioral symptoms should still be present: Heavy breathing, reduced or complete loss of appetite, rubbing, flashing, head twitching, yawning, erratic swimming behavior. Unfortunately flukes & ich in the gills share these same symptoms, so you either have to treat for both or perform a FW dip to confirm/rule out the presence of flukes.

A fish with internal parasites will usually have white stringy poop. Of course, practically speaking whether or not you notice something like white string poop or the behavioral symptoms described above depends upon two factors:
  1. How much time you are willing & able to spend observing your fish in QT everyday
  2. How attention to detail minded are you (and also just how good is your eyesight)
My wife tells me all the time I can't see what a good thing I've got, so I take that to mean I must not be a very observant person. Therefore, I play it on the safe side and prophylactically treat all new fish. ;)

Ok, THANK YOU! That's basically what I was looking for.. I know nobody can tell me a magic number or what's best to use but I am VERY detailed oriented and I spend more time than I care to admit staring at the tank & corals and fish and inverts. I can even tell you how may snails have excess coralline growth! I was watching my nassarius snails for the longest time the other day because they were like a little gang about to attack! So all that being said, if It is possible to notice a fish with symptoms I can tell you I would know..So will stick with the 3 to 4 week observation and I will add some prazipro and observe, observe, observe! I'm a woman so it comes naturally! LOL

Yes it is possible to notice a fish behaving strange before you see symptoms. But it depends on the disease snd not all are easy to spot. One that comes to mind is ich or gill flukes. Before you will ever see anything, your fish most likely will tell ya it has problems by scratching itself against things like your rock work etc. Things like that. Internal parasites, usually your fish will be lethargic and not eating, guts shrinking etc. So ya there are ways and it is always good to look at your tank all the time:)
