Pre-drilled 17g nano, Overflow and return pump questions...

Hello fellow reef tank enthusiasts!! I humbly ask for you gurus to point me in the right direction(s)

I am piecing together a nano SPS tank. I scored a 17gallon Mr. Aqua and a stand, a Eshopps Pks-100 skimmer, and I built a 10 sump/refugium this weekend.

The tank is pre-drilled and I am at the stage that I need to figure out my plumbing.

My plans thus far are to purchase an Eshopps 800gph overflow kit and pair that with a Jebao 2000l return pump.

Now, I guess my question is on a system this small, is the overflow box necessary? I am leaning that direction primarily for the emergency overflow and noise reduction.

Which I assume will be better on both accounts to just a simple PVC 90 degree elbow drilled for an airline tube air vent?

Also, I have zero familiarity with current reef vendors and brands. I was initially going to purchase a $17 internal box and just run the 9o degree to the sump, however it seems all research is telling me that's a poor choice. Are there other/better options for an overflow build and/or return pump?

You could get away with the smaller version of the Eshopps overflow on your 17g tank. I used the smaller version on my 20g long QT/Frag tank and like it a lot. Just a suggestion.

Do you remember the distance from the center hole of your bulkhead to the rim of the tank? Mine is pre-drilled so I want to make sure the overflow doesn't sit 1" above the rim lol.

I thought I saved the template that came with it, but can't put my hands on it. The QT is running so it's a little difficult to measure, but it looks to be about 4" from the middle of the bulk head to the rim.

What is the size of the pre-drilled hole? That may determine if this particular overflow will even work with the current hole.

Current hole is 1 and 3/4". It came with a 1" i.d. bulkhead. looks like my hole is 3" from the rim

My initial plan was just to silicon a prefab box from ebay with an elbow in the back with a vent hole.

After a little research I am leaning toward a prefab herbie, if it will work.

Look into CPR they have a black box with teeth and a bulkhead for a DIY setup, no silicon needed
