Pre-Filter for Reactor?

Hey Guys-

I've been running a new reactor for about 4 weeks. It's a simple system - Jebao DCS2000 pump plumbed with 1/2 PVC to triple chamber reactor with individual control valves and then back to tank.

My trouble is that the media (and really the felt pads in the cartridges) is getting fouled with stuff from the tank. Do you guys run pre-filters? How do I solve this?
