Pre-Order: Maxspect Gyre XF130

A new, smaller Gyre will be arriving soon to Marine Depot—so we just put the pump on the site so you can pre-order and reserve a unit from our first shipment.

Here are a few of the key differences between the Gyre XF130 and the recently released XF150:

• The XF130 has 35 watts of power versus 50 watts for the XF150.
• The XF130 is 9" x 1.8" x 2.1" compared to the XF150's 11.8" x 2.9" x 2.4" dimensions
• The max glass/acrylic thickness the XF130 can be used on is 1/2" versus 3/4" for the XF150

We anticipate delivery mid to late January.

Maxspect has rated the pumps for use on aquariums from 25 - 100 gallons. It should work really well on a 24" Cube and will move water throughout the entire tank without a problem.

So for a cube that is 20x20x20 and mostly LPS, how low of a setting would I have to go to not turn my tank into a hurricane?

TheSaint216, we have not heard any information regarding a different controller. The current controller is already very feature-rich: including Constant Speed, Pulsing, Alternating and Feed Modes. They are working on a controller to make it controllable with the Apex as well as an advanced controller that will have WiFi with iPhone/Android Apps, but there is no ETA as of yet. We are under the assumption that these controllers/adapters will be sold separately.

Shep, it should work nicely on a 20x20x20 LPS tank. I would start with 10% in the constant speed mode then ramp up the speed to sell what speed works best for your aquarium. Once you have done that, you can then use that percentage as a guideline for the pulsing or alternating modes.

Read the original post. 1/2" glass for the FX-130 versus 3/4" for the FX-150. So the answer is no.

gfox... being right at the maximum recommended tank size, the XF130 will work. However, we would recommend the larger XF150 as it can more-easily handle your aquarium. Additionally, running the larger XF150 at a lower speed will be quieter and more durable than running the smaller XF130 at full speed.

kedtango, as NanaReefer noted the XF130 is rated for glass up to 1/2". For 3/4" glass, you will need to go with the larger XF150.

I'm one of the beta testers for the 50w model and have that same tank. I was running it at 8/11 with no substrate, but when I had sand, I couldn't run it over 6/11 without it blowing sand around. The 35w model is a much better choice for this size tank. Stay tuned
