Predator Cove beginnings

That aquarium has around 40 differant sharks. I didn't get them all in the vid ofcourse.

The biggest ones at the Silverton casino aquarium...

A Japanese Leopard around 48 inches. A brown banded bamboo around 48 inches. A white spotted bamboo around 48 inches.

The big one at sea quest Las Vegas is a 50 inch white spotted bamboo. Biggest Bamboo I've ever seen. I'd assume over 35 lbs but who knows lol. It's long and huge.

Here you can see the 4 foot brown banded and 4 foot leopard next to eachother. They were both identical in size. There's a white spotted bamboo in the same aquarium equal to their size.

As far as publications...they normally state a brown banded maxes out at 41 inches and a white spotted maxes out at 38 inches.

But you and I both know there are some brown banded in the 50-56 inch range. Likewise....Ofcourse some white spotted are in the 44-50 inch range.

I as well thought white spotted were much smaller...till I saw a few 4 footers with my own eyes

This is the 50 inch white spotted at sea quest Las Vegas. It is massive. It's hard to guage size in pics or vids. But look how far away it is from my wife and even close to those people. I have a 27 incher at home and it makes mine look like a toy

Still - this gets into some common issues in the visual estimating size vs. Scientific data debate.

It is pretty a fact that visually estimating the size of an animal can often be off by 10-30% of the animal's true size even if the person is with in touching range of the animal in question. I have heard of many cases of sharks' sizing being over estimated - based on visual evidence. Like claims of the 14-foot Nurse Sharks, when the largest reliable record specimens are only in the 10-11 feet range.

Now with that all being all said - by living in the Las Vegas area. You likely have seen many more bamboo sharks in the various public aquariums, and casinos within the city than I have in my entire state. As, we only have 3 public aquariums in NC.

Also, have you looking at the Shipping container swimming pool/Aquarium idea for the system setup when the Japanese leopard & bamboos outgrow their current tank. These are usually at least 20 feet long x 8 feet wide x 5'9" tall.

Rotating 3D objects is my thing. I'm currently training to become a Mensa member. My IQ is a verified 128 by the US government but I need a 132 to become the top 2% of intelligence in the world. I've been testing and reading books for 18 months to hit that 132 needed to become Mensa

The reason I say this is because rotating 3D objects in my mind is my strongest point. My IQ is genius level in this regard (only) and mid 140s.

On the flip side launguage puzzle solving is my lowest point and a 110 which is barely above average

Math I'm mid 120s

Average person is around 85-100 iq

Basically...My visual estimations are extremely good in contrast to the average person just don't ask me to solve any word puzzles.

The shipping crate ones are not attractive to me. Majestic aquariums has a well done one but if still looks bad compared to my aquarium from my perspective.

Bertha....Oh yes I learned of Bertha around 6 months ago. She a great example of visual overestimation. In the tank swimming vertically she looked massive. But upon measuring and weighing she was found to be only 44 inches if memory serves.

I can build a 12x10x3 pond for 1k my cost. Filtration I'm unsure cost wise

Here's Birtha actual weight and measurement

3 feet 6 inches (42 inches)

5.8 kilos ( 12.5 pounds) heres the video showing her weighed and measured

To me they did Soso job measuring her. I'd say she's actually 44 inches

Yeah, that makes more sense, I've never heard of them getting anywhere near 4 feet.

Come to Vegas and prepare to be amazed.

To me....

A two foot shark looks small. 2.5 feet is still small but perhaps medium. 3 feet in the flesh is medium to slightly large.

Once you see 3.5 feet swim by in the aquarium glass...That's when I notice people oooo and ahhhhh at the Silverton casino...This is the level where you can see they are actually viewing it as a shark....While the 3 feet and under ones they view more as a large fish or shark fish without a better term..

But the 4 foot leopard, brown banded and white spotted at the Silverton...that's when the people become mesmerized. I have a second home walking distance from that casino and I frequent it often.

The 4 footers...let me tell you most humans are only 5-6 feet tall and that's counting legs..When the 4 footers swim by ..you can feel it...They could hurt you if they chose too..

And my God the 10 footers at the Mandalay Bay shark aquarium........

Good Lord....Seeing a 10 foot predator swim by literally will make you feel like you are in the Jurassic park movie. It's a feeling you have to experience if you haven't yet.

Okay - I did not realize that Bertha's size and weight were very overestimated in the press, until today. But it does illustrate how easy it is to visually overestimate the shark.

I have seen a 4-foot-long Brown Banded Bamboo in a video back about 8-10 years. That shark would be being kept in a 600 gallon tank (8 ft. long x 4 ft. wide x 2.5 ft. tall). And the fact that she was about 50% the length of that tank.

I definitely agree that 8-10 foot long sharks often seem to be massive. Especially if they are swimming only a few feet from you.

I have a 3 foot measuring stick at my house. Next time I go to Silverton casino aquarium I will take it with me.

Bertha appeared so big simply because she was close. Even my 27 incher looks big as hell right in front of me. A 43 inch Bertha is SIXTEEN INCHES bigger than my guy. Just a foot in front of you that would appear to be massive.

Then brownbandeds are extremely thick for their length. Adding even more to their size. I know a great vid that shows this. I'll see if I can find it

I talked to the owner. He said this shark was extremely sweet and around 3 feet. To me I think 3 feet minimum and closer to 3.5. look at it's head!!!!

That was an awfully lethargic response to that food. I keep coral cats and they go into a feeding frenzy when shrimp/squid hit the water. I know they are usually more voracious eaters, but still.

My white spotted bamboo is even more relaxed.

He casually swims up and eats from my hand. Gently. Extremely gently.

He will only eat from my hand. If it falls to the sand he won't eat it.

If I change the name brand of his squid, fish or shrimp he will not eat it. Immediately spits it out once he sees it's not his brand

Once he taste the shark nutrition vitamins he won't eat anymore that day. He's ticked.

He is spoiled rotten. All the other sharks will eat anything anytime rather my hand or sand makes no difference lol

Have you considering doing both the pond/tank and filtration DIY style? Also, have you considered a DIY shark aquarium, instead of a pond?
