I just noticed that my paired Bangai are pregnant. The bigger one is carrying the eggs in his/her mouth.

Can anyone give me some info on these guys? Like which is male, which is female. Survival rate on the fry. Care instructions. Etc...

I used to breed Africans, so I’m somewhat familiar with mouth-brooding. But this is the first time I’ve had any type of saltwater fish carry eggs

All help is appreciated!!!

It’s the male that was carry them for approx 20 days before releasing them. In your reef they will become food for others unless you take the male out before he releases the fry. The. Your need a steady supply of baby brine shrimp to raise them.

Mine has held eggs about a half dozen times so far. He makes it 2 weeks or less, then they are gone. Everyone says it takes a good male to see it through. Let us know what happens!

If you have a refugium, some usually find their way there. The fry will get big enough on their own in there if its fully stocked so keep an eye on in there.

Good luck! I have been hoping for this "problem" for a year! Did you do anything special to condition them?
