Preparing for a move

Hello all,
I have a few questions hopefully you all can help out. I’m moving in about a month and I have to shut down my Tank and don’t know when I will be able to start up a new one. It’s a small 28gal mixed reef that has been a great learning experience. The lfs is gonna help break it down and take the corals. Also I live in NY zip 10547 so anyone interested in buying a few corals let me know. My questions really pertain to a new Tank. I want to do something bigger I was thinking like 100gal display. I am also deciding if I want to do a reef or just a fowlr. Has anyone ever switched from a reef and regretted not having the corals anymore? Or has anyone felt like it was a great decision and really like how it expanded the fish species they were able to get? I really like the movement that the corals bring to the Tank and want to know how others achieve this with only rock.

I took a 5 year break and set up an aggressive tank when I started back up because I always wanted to keep a lion fish. The fish I was able to keep with it were cool, and maintenance was less involved, but when ich wiped out my whole tank, I decided I missed corals, and ended up setting up the reef again!

You’re gonna have to decide. Or get 2 tanks and solve the problem

I actually know exactly what you mean. I’m redoing my tank, so very few coral. I’m on the fence going fish only. It would be cheaper for sure. I like a lot of the trigger and parrots and puffers that doesn’t go in a reef

im just getting back to reefing after taking a 4 year break we got a new house and i got the itch again i have a little more time now so i can take care of it properly

I ran a 55g FOWLR for 2 yrs. you could always use (don’t kill me) fake plants to create movement in a tank. They gather a ton of marine dust so regular upkeep is a must. But you have options. I like Mastiffsrule’s suggestion of running 2 tanks though lol

Yea running two tanks would be a great idea. I’m so on the fence with it all. I have some time to figure it all out and I can def do a lot more planning now that I have some understanding of what works and fix errors I made w my current setup. My main concern which I would imagine comes down to a lot of ppls issue is the time/maintenance/cost of a larger size reef. But does anyone really save much more then that w a fowlr Tank? I can imagine lighting is gonna be much less expensive.
