So a year ago or so I had a velvet outbreak in a nano tank and decided to just break down the tank and upgrade to a bigger one and buy new rock and other supplies. The rock has been sitting outside on my apartment balcony for several months now collecting dust and whatever other pollution floats around in the Bangkok air. I'm setting up a new QT right now and need some rock so was considering using it again. Should I just buy new, live rock or how hard would it be to clean this old rock well enough to not have to worry about any contaminants getting into my new QT?

I would not recommend using rock in your QT. It can soak up medications (especially copper) and reduce your medication below therapeutic levels.

I also wouldn't use "live" rock. Adding any medication would result in some die-off of microfauna.

Just my two cents (absolutely not an expert in this realm, but some things to think about).

You're completely right! I forgot about the medications! Thanks!
