I am wondering, I have a 150 gallon tank I just fixed up it's 48x24x30.5 and I'm thinking of turning it into an aquascape. If I fill this very tall tank with a bunch of rock and dirt to make the aquascape will that take pressure off the tank once it's filled cause there is less water or will it put more pressure on the tank seeing as there is more weight in it.

This may be an obvious answer over my head but I don't know and I don't want the tank bowing out on me. If the tank has less pressure then I will feel more willing to do it.

I've never had a tank blowout but I won't say it can't happen. I have taken a 120 gallon tank apart in the basement and was very surprised how strong the bottom glass was. I'm not worried about dropping rocks in my 120 now without sand.

Sorry I think I have bad wording for my question. I am definitely not worried about the weight on the bottom just the sides. I am curious having more rock does that alivieate pressure on the sides and put more on the bottom seeing as there is less water. Or does it put more pressure on the sides then if the tank was just only full of water. I am actually trying to create less pressure on the sides and have the bottom handle more.

I have decided I am going to turn this tank I fixed up into an aquascape and fill the holes in the bottom. Then buy a brand new tank for a reef aquarium as it will be more permanent and plumbed into my house so I'd rather something new.
