Pretty amazing zoa story

So I did a trade with a local guy, I got a couple zoas from him. The day we did the trade I had some things going on so I floated the zoas in my sump for most of the day. That night I pulled them out to acclimate and noticed one frags had zoapox pretty badly. I messaged the guy and said I don't want them since I did not have my QT tank up and I just didn't want to go thru the hassle of treating them. He said he'd come get them. 3 days went by and I finally heard from him that he had stuff come up and couldn't come get them. This whole time they had been floating in a ziplock in my sump. So I told him I was going to toss them out. I had just picked up a piece of LR from a local shop so I had one of those large styro containers out in my garage, and I just put the ziplock inside it. Summer just started here in Oregon, so its been mid 80s, and my garage gets pretty darn hot during the day at least 95 degrees. About a week later i went to toss the styro container and remembered the zoas. I pulled out the ziplock, and they zoas looked just fine except for being closed. Whats odd is that the zoapox were gone. I mean completely gone not a spot on them. So, having just setup a biocube which was in the process of cycling I decided to put them in there. They sat in my biocube for 2 weeks and thru the cycle, but never opened. I decided to be safe and treat them with Furan-2. I went thru the treatment, then put them into my frag tank finally. They stayed closed for about a week, then I was able to snap this pic of them last night. They look great, with the exception of having different color than they originally started with but I expect that to come back soon.

I am just simply amazed that they went thru all that and didn't lose a single polyp.

Another member here local to me was on his honeymoon and had his tank crash (stray32) He had tons of zoas that sat in the tank for days before he came home. He put them in a bucket in a garage to bring them to my house to try and rescue some of them, and it took about a week for us to meet up. when he came over, the water was brown and smelled bad, and there is no way we thought any would make it. I used lugols and dipped the 20 or so frags and to my surprise i was able to save 3 frags. Jokers, armor of gods and goochsters. In the last year they have grown into colonies in my tank.

So for about a week and a half they had no flow, light, heat and in the nastiest water but still had some pull through

Crazy! Thats pretty amazing! Perhaps you found the best cure for zoa pox

I had a small frag a friend surprised me with the day I was doing a water change an some other stuff. Long story short I set the pee cup containing the frag on a shelf in my tank room which stays a pretty consistent 55-60 degrees and somehow just forgot all about them. Three weeks passed before I reached up on the shelf to grab a test meter and noticed the pee cup still sitting there.

I immediately thought "oh crap", but to my surprise when I took them out they didn't look all that bad other than being closed and a little smaller than I previously remember. I figured no harm in seeing if they come around. Tossed them in my tank and within a week were fully open again and even had started a new baby polyp.

It amazes me how resilient some are and how so much as looking at others the wrong way will cause them to shrivel up and melt away.

Awesome!

I threw some Nuclear Green Palys in the trash on accident one day when adding a bunch of frags and I didn't remember until the next day. They weren't in any water at all for over 24 hrs. When I realized what I did and dug them out of the trash and dropped them in the tank and they opened right up!

Those are some insane stories.

I feel good knowing that on occasion i'll have a zoa frag melt out in my tank but you guys are throwing them in the trash or ziplock bags with no repercussion. :tongue:

I must seriously be doing this wrong.

This isn't a zoa story but on the same lines. I got home from a frag swap one saturday and acclimated all my coral. As normal I would float them and then through the water and bag into the bucket they were acclimating in after placing the coral in the tank. After a little over a week, the wife got tired of the smellybucket sitting in the living room floor and told me it had to go, so I took it outside and poored it in the grass and began picking up the bags that were in the bucket. As i picked up one of the bags, I noticed a coral still in there and as you would guess " Oh Crap " was the first thing in my head. It was an acan lord. I took in inside floated the bag and 3 months later it is as beautiful as the day i bought it.
