So yesterday the nephews were over and I closed off the basement so my tanks were safe but I got a quarantine set up in the laundry room, a 40b split in 3 sections. They must of went in that way when someone used the restroom, and there were a bunch of coins on the washer and they tossed them into the tank. Who knows what was on the coins and I didn't find it till tonight when I went to check on them, worked late today. Well, I lost 2 juvenile coris red wrasses, a juvenile clown trigger that was just starting to change over, a purple tang. I got another purple tang that is clinging to life. I'm sure it won't make it till morning. The tangs and trigger had all completed 3 months of quarantine and were ready to enter a new tank this coming week as it is just about cycled.

Anyhow the tang left is gasping for air at the surface like crazy, got him into a clean tank and freshwater... but it just so disheartening. sucks no one here understands. I had to walk away when I heard its just a fish...... was the neighbor so I let it go for now...

sorry to hear..buck in change a ,K in fish,what a bummer,...but next ,is always tomorrow ;)

ok, guys, the purple tang made it through the night and is no longer gasping for air at the surface, she is semi hiding against a tang decoration i put in for somewhere to hide, she is breathing a lot better it looks like and she has good eye response, if I go close she definitely locks on and watches me. Not sure if I should just leave her be or do something? Ideas..... I do so a few small white spots on her now though so adding her to one of the display tanks is a no go. ugg.... she is in just a 5gal, thinking I need to break down and clean my quarantine setup and get her back in it.

she is in a 5gal with a small filter, heater, and a bubbler that is barley going, just a touch.

Stunned by your terrible news. Some extra nice fish, too. It seems as if you caught it rather quickly, so I wonder whether the coins alone could have been such a fast-acting source of harm. Any chance the little neighborhood fiends decided to ‘feed’ your fish something else from the laundry room? Either way, your R2R buddies feel your pain. You won’t be hearing ‘but it’s just a fish’ from us. o_O

Oh no! I just saw that! Terrible! So sorry! How's your surviving purple tang doing?
He lasted 3 days but passed in the end. I cleaned everything and reset up my quaretee, then bought a harlequin tusk, he is just a small guy about 2in long, can’t wait for him to clear quaretee.
