Hi All,

I recently picked up a 180 fairly cheap that was caked up in algae. After spending all that time removing the algae I noticed the tank was loaded with scratches. I'm guessing his cleaning technique was to take a handful of crushed coral and rub it against the glass for years.

Anyways, I'm so deep into this build and fed up, I'm just going to by a new tank.

How much should a new 180 Gallon cost me? My cheapest quote so far is $825 for a Marineland with corner over flows. I was told that what they cost for a dealer.

I retail them here for $899. I sincerely doubt $825 is truly their cost, but it's not a bad deal by any means.

A few things to ponder...

That glass box is not going to end up being a large percentage of the final cost for a large reef system. It _will_ have a huge effect on your satisfaction with the end result.

If you decide to save your money, that you'll just deal with the scratches, are you ever going to be truly happy with your build?

I did a quick craigslist/FB market search, and found two used 180's in my area. Both were near the $800 price you're looking at, though they both came with additional equipment. Neither are going to be 'perfect'.

Good points for sure.
