i got them off a guy on rc, dont' remember his name. i think he was from baltimore, was about a year and a half ago?
it's very possible what i thought were goochsters were something else, they are red with greenish tentacles, but you only see the green when they shrink down as when you disturb them.
honestly, i think the AOG form that twon and I have are pretty rare....if someone local wanted them I'd sell them around $50/polyp b/c they grow slow for me.......but they are wild looking IMO.
btw......twon, do you have any devils armor? they have the same color and sheen that our AOG's have....but a greenish skirt.
(both of these are my 2 favorite zoas of all time)
Goochsters if I remember correctly were around for years before they ever got named anything. Under real intense 10k halides they turn a bright orange. In 20k tanks they look red.
I know I explained the history of them a while back. I think I made six original frags from the mother colony. Sold half locally and the other half online. They have been around for years and years and hundreds if not thousands of frags are probably out there right now. I know I probably sold close to 100 frags myself back in the day. I know BD aquaculture has my two huge mother colonies now and he probably has a couple thousand polyps on those colonies. It is a very good grower.
I didn't name them but I got the same color out of them in different lighting as the pictures in the thread.
FWIW the original rock had blue polyps and the red ones. I purchased it direct from a wholesaler at three times the normal price for the blue polyps on it. I believe the same distributer sold a couple of rocks of the same ones to a few others. I believe the goochsters and AOG came onto the scene around the same time...... only I held onto mine for a while before selling them. I also was selling 100% aquacultured frags of 25+ started from one polyp for $50 a frag(less than $2 a polyp) until the price explosion came along. I think I sold the original wild cuttings for around $35-$50 a frag full of polyps. The big prices on these all started after I got out of the retail business. But I was able to sell a few pieces at premium prices(about $4 a polyp).
HERE IS A BAD SHOT OF MY GREEN MOUTHED PINKS. THEY ARE VERY PINK IN PERSON, AND EACH POLYP IS THE SIZE OF A NICKEL. I PAID $20. FOR A FRAG OF ABOUT 30 POLYPS.
