Primer needed to paint my 40 breeder?

I am about to paint my 40 breeder. I wanted to know if you need to apply a primer before painting the back glass black?

I bought a can of black spray paint from Home Depot. I don't remember the brand though.

For all those reefers that's painted their tank, I need your input.

You don't need a primer, just clean the glass and paint it. By the way, you should cover the back glass after painting it because sooner or later you will scratch the paint.
