Pro/Con for DIY 40 breeder sump vs Trigger style sump

Looking at upgrading sumps and I was wondering what advantage you get spending the extra money for a trigger sump.

Will they both operate silently? The DIY wont have probe or filter sock holders. Trigger is acrylic which is a plus in my book.

If cost wasn't a factor which would you chose?

There should be no cost differance. As for notice that is down to your protein skimmer. I would go with doc pumps on your return and skimmer

trigger sumps are really nice but why waste the money? build it yourself. i am making one from a 30 gallon tank for a 75 gal dt. and yes your can make sock holders even if you buy the kit is does not come anywhere close to the price of a good trigger sump.

Its a no brainer! If the cost isn't a factor a Trigger sump will definitely make you happier in the long run. They're sharp, clean, effiecient, quiet with adjustable baffles and nice sock compartments with clean laser cut outs. Do the Trigger, you'll thank yourself in the long run.

The big pro is the cost; you can get all the accessories you want for a custom sump, probe holder, sock holders, etc. Running a downpipe from the overflow line past the water line and it will be dead silent. Another pro for the custom is you can design it any way you want. I'm not sure how acrylic is a plus, i don't see a difference; you can have acrylic baffles and accessories. Use the ge silicone for lexan and plastics, and will stick to acrylic and glass with no problem. Trigger sumps are pretty but unless you are doing an open stand, it doesn't matter.
