Wonder where BRS got that info.

There are 2 manufacturers of USP grade NaCl in the US, and 1 for Reagent graded NaCl. At least last time I checked a few years ago. I know this number hasn't decreased, and to my knowledge hasn't increased either.
who gets there salt made at the two facility's?

They have lost any business from me given the mess of cyano in my tank and what it has done to my sps corals. On top of that it’s not even a recall. I had earlier complained about the quality of their buckets while even a 45$ coral life salt was shipped with a better quality bucket and the response was meh. Should have followed the forums to know it was not me that had the entire issue. Everything stable and it was dying.

I'm fortunate to have enough of the German Pro-Reef salt left to last me for a little while, but I suspect it could be some time before we're able to source German-manufactured Pro-Reef salt again here in Canada.

Like many others, I'll probably have to look into alternate sources in the interim or possibly give up Pro-Reef entirely, because I can't imagine anyone would resume using the Turkish-manufactured salt - even with assurances from Tropic Marin.

Hopefully they do it for all of us. I was told to be patient and wait for future info.
Tim,
I just shot BRS an email for an replacement bucket, I'd settle for a Brightwells bucket at this point.

Didn't realize this many people used tropic Marin. What a catastrophic event to happen to the reefing community, the amount of threads, I've even smelled a friend of mines bucket which was like pure citric acid. But like all salts stuff just happens like this from time to time. I have 3 bad black buckets, less then 350 calcium. 2 blue buckets that had like 1600 magnesium, and I can't even count the number of bad boxes of reef crystals, all didn't mix how they normally would have. Gave me enuff fright to even discard 50 gallons of fresh saltwater. Just how it is, I've gotten rocks in reef crystals before.

If you guys think something is off with any salt mix, trash it. There was a point in time where I would buy multiple boxes with the same batch number just so I didn't have to test each box everytime I opened a bag. Just as a feel good thing knowingly I had a Good batch of salt.

Interesting @poidog. This is a completely random thought, but if they are using Turkey to manufacture and supply North America, and not Europe, why didn't they just set up a plant here in North America? I'm sure labor is cheaper in Turkey, but its not any cheaper than Germany! I'm sure they could have setup a plant in the southwest USA or Mexico and got a great direct source of salt and competitive labor.

I hope they shut down that plant permanently, learn from their mistakes, and add a N.A. plant. They could probably even get the costs down. Not sure what this German company was thinking.

For me, I switched to BW Neo for now but will plan to try the German sourced salt soon after seeing their response and the BRS video.

LThe video BRS made recently stated that the reason they haven't opened a plant in the US is because they couldn't find a pure residue-free source of sodium chloride in the US.

Technically that is not true.

My brother in law retired off the board of directors of Morton Salt in Chicago several years back.

They have always produced lab grade salt and some of it also goes to pharmaceutical copanies as well.

Just tossing that fact on the table... :p

Has anyone purchased new TMP from BRS recently. The website says from Germany. If so, did you have any issues with this salt. I will need salt soon since I have 2 unopened boxes from Turkey.

I got a 'follow up' email this week telling me they still didn't know what they were going to do lol

In their video they said you could send it back for a refund. If you wanted to expedite this then I would watch that video again and hold them to their word.

If people are happy to wait then that’s fine, but I would be a bit annoyed if I was made to wait, after they had already said I could return it.

Yes it seems like the choice is up to each individual person from both the video and my LFS.

I was told I could bring it in and swap it for a German bucket or wait it out until TM communicates final plans.

I needed salt so I swapped mine otherwise I would have waited. No questions at all. I ended up getting the last bucket but he said he had a new pallet coming this week.

Yes, I ordered a bucket as soon as they said it was all German. Got a german bucket and it looks fine. Totally different packaging than the turkey buckets, right down to the zip tie thing.

Have one turkey bucket to return, and am waiting for instructions. They did send a followup email saying they haven't forgotten, just hold on a bit longer, so no problem waiting.

I figure if I can't afford to replace a bucket sooner than I planned, I'm probably in the wrong hobby. LOL

Just got another 44 pound and 27.5 pound box from Germany and like always mixed perfect, corals and fish happy and I am HAPPY...
I love Tropic Marin...Just switched from classic to Pro Reef for the new 300...

Here's the thing @Lou Ekus, I was switching to TP Pro Reef from HW Marine Reefer mix simply because I wanted to get away from BRS, NOW, I am now sure if it was a smart decision. I ordered 5 Boxes of TP Pro Reef and may have to simply throw them away as I DO NOT trust them. They ALL COME FROM TURKEY!!!

I wanted to believe in TM, AND, was willing to totally switch brands. I guess I should had stayed with HW Marine Reefer mix and find another way to detach myself from @Bulk Reef Supply

I guess I need to be another way for HW Marine to bring in their great salt and distribute it.
It's available from this retailer

Wonder if this has had a negative effect on my anemones. They haven’t been the same since Nov when I bought a lot from BRS.

I used to get all my hW stuff from Hawaiian Marine Imports. Anyone remember them? It was the only place to get Tunze and Eheim too.
