i'm a little surprised there has been little to no updates coming from Tropic Marin, nor any updates from BRS how they are going to handle...
No surprise here, they are both corporate entities playing the hush hush non accountable strategy game... no truth shall be known by the peasants

Please see our newest statement on our website at:

@Lou Ekus i appreciate your efforts in this situation. Problem that i assume, there are many of us that bought the box TMP that, me especially, don't keep in in the box and disregard the box, i can't take a pic. If i'm out of luck so be it....

My recommendation, and I hope it helps, is to go back to your LFS or your online retailer, wherever you purchased the salt, with your receipt. They know you, what you purchased and when you purchased it. In most cases I think they will help you with the replacement.

Yeah, I ordered two 160 gal boxes from BRS on Nov because they were out of the big buckets but I pulled the bags out of the boxes and threw the boxes out when I received them so I could stack them up under my WC station. So I’m also SOL.

Lou, I appreciate that...I bought from BRS and they have all the info along with order number,i emailed that info, but the form they are using requires a picture of the box...as explained that can't happen...all good..

Same boat, but not giving up quite so easily. ;) I took a picture of the bag and use that for the photo, and put a note explaining the situation instead of the lot number. We'll see.

I'd been communicating with BRS via email and they knew the situation and were ok with it, so hopefully this will still work out.

I have my tm pro box but brs covered up the lot number sticker with the shipping label.

I sent out an email to brs, hopefully it’s a non issue.

Looks like BRS is willing to replace these boxes for me as well. Hard to beat their customer service. Love that they have a live chat feature.

what is the next step in the process after submitting the BRS form?

Did you utilize the live chat feature to inquire about the thrown out box issue? Thanks

Yep. They even looked up the order number for me because their order lookup was broken on their site (any multi page orders show only the first page of items every time you click to the next page of items).

@Lou Ekus fyi, I tried to get the two buckets I had purchased from Saltwateraquarium.com in December (bc BRS was sold out) and they told me I have to ship them back the original buckets. They did provide pre-paid shipping but now I have to go down to Home Depot to buy a box big enough to fit two five-gallon buckets, come home, pack up the buckets, print the label, and drive them to the local UPS store. They said they’ll ship out the replacements immediately, before they receive the old ones. But what’s the point, other than making me spend time and money to return a faulty product? It’s not worth my time. No thanks.

It’s also worth noting to other consumers that I sent a response back to Saltwateraquarium.com CS linking to the TM page that explains that products don’t need to be returned to retailers and Saltwateraquarium.com CS responded back that I need to do it anyway (I had proactively sent them the order # and pics of the lot # on the buckets). They said they have a special arrangement with TM where TM will cover the cost of shipping for them, after I pointed out that making me ship them back was an unnecessary cost to them.

Unlike BRS, Saltwateraquarium.com did not proactively reach out about this issue and is making it unnecessarily difficult for me to deal with it.

I'm trying to come up with a good reason Saltwateraquarium.com would want the Turkish salt returned other than they plan to use it internally or resell it at some point. I guess it makes sense considering TM's stance that the salt is completely safe to use. Though, I wish the recommendation was to dispose of it out of an abundance of caution and regard for our livestock.

Yeah I replied back to them and explained how they’re making me do a lot of unnecessary work (go buy a box, come back and pack them up, take them to UPS). I sent them a pretty respectful email. Then I got a voicemail from a guy named Greg who sounded a bit upset, telling me I still had to ship them back, even if they’re already used. I guess the implication is that I can send them empty buckets and get back free salt. He then went on to dismiss my point about BRS not requiring customers to ship them back and said, paraphrasing: “that’s our policy and you’re welcome to take your business elsewhere”.

Frankly, it isn’t worth my time. I didn’t choose this hobby because I’m frugal. Hell, I’m buying the most expensive salt on the market *because* it’s supposed to be the highest quality. I’m obviously not cost sensitive. I just want the premium quality product I paid for. Greg seems to think I’m looking for free salt, I guess. He also went on to tell me that the TM salt is fine and won’t hurt my fish, again, implying that this is just an opportunity for free salt and I should be happy Saltwateraquarium.com is willing to give it to me.

Oh well, between BRS and my LFS, I’m not hurting for places to spend my money.

I’d be shopping elsewhere, no need for rudeness from the retailer

I had considered using the Turkish stuff on my QT tanks, but it’s a poison pill and mine are going in the garbage.

When I called BRS a few weeks ago, the guy on the phone told me that nobody there knew anything about the issue. I even asked him to put me on hold and check with management. He said I was the only one with the issue and talked to me as if I was a complaining Karen. I ended up getting mine replaced by TM.
