Hello everyone. On 3/17 I received an all SPS order from TSA. This was for 15 frags. I didn't have very many frags before this, only about 8. My dkh consumption was only at 28-30 ml soda ash per day to maintain 9.1dkh. In anticipation, I had set my trident to add a maximum of 50 ml per day, which was spot on. Well, this morning I got a notice from my apex saying that my dkh had dropped to 8.7, then 8.6. I adjusted for a maximum of 75 ml per day. Dropped to 8.5 dkh. I adjust to 100 ml per day. Dkh is now rising at .1 per every 4 hours.

My question is, is it normal for frags to take a few days before starting to consume their necessary amount of calcium and alkalinity? I'm just surprised to see how sudden the alk started dropping. I worry that perhaps something is off with the trident. I guess going from 30 ml to 100 ml, from the addition of 15 frags isn't so subtle is it? Anyhow, just after whether or not this is normal.

I am keeping a super close eye on my parameters and coral as this was a super expensive order. Just wanted some input. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest a manual test. I find it suspect that some frags would be able to move consumption that much. Something else may be going on. Double check salinity as well.

+1 on Scott’s recommendations. I also find it unlikely that they came in and started using that much alk. In fact, I find when I add frags in my tank, I don’t notice any difference in my alk consumption for a few weeks or more in some cases. Every system is a little different though….
