Probably stupid question about dosing alk

My doser is set to dose 5ml of soda ash several times through the day. Some times I notice it flakes up as it hits the water. Do the flakes eventually dissolve and count towards the quantity dosed? Or is it wasting solution and I should dose less at more intervals to prevent flaking?

That's normal, itll dissolve eventually and does count towards your amount dosed. If it becomes an issue add a small powerhead where it is dosed to help mix it faster
