Say I'm at a frag swap, and I purchase coral from someone who's running a full entire line of (insert random brand here)'s "coral program" Now I personally just focus on the big 3, and don't dump hundreds of dollars into dosing what I can't test for.

Are my new purchases at any risk because of this?
Could corals become reliant on what's added to the seller's salt, and not survive in the environment I provide?
Is it even possible to keep the color to the coral after it is moved?

Not trying to knock any type of program or saltmix. I just want to know if I have to go around to tables asking what they dose in their tank, and passing on any probiotic dosed tanks?

There are many different types of stresses that happen when shifting corals from one tank to another: lighting, salinity, alkalinity, nutrients, temperature, etc.

In general, folks seem to find this goes OK, although perhaps with some apparent stress for a bit.

But I don't consider the salt mix or the methods used to be among the most important things to worry about. :)

Corals will change colors based on food and light and change shape with flow differences. Part of the biology. However, I would not worry about asking all that from a vendor. Just make sure the coral is healthy and you get a chance to see under both blues and whites if you have different lights.

It may change, but that should not be a big concern provided it stays healthy.

Thank you both for settling this for us. You know how chatting among reefers can get haha
