So I just got my ICP test back and I have high levels of Potassium 452 and MG 1596. I do a 15% change a week and have a Pacific sun calc reactor using arm course media which is the only two sources of potassium and Magnesium. My KH is steady at 8. I had the same high levels 1,5 month ago when i did my last ICP test. Not sure what to do to get the levels in range again. I wonder if I should change media to something that doesn't contain potassium and magnesium?

I hope some of you smart people here can help me. Thanks.

About the mag, what is your salinity? High salinity can boost mg. Maybe try a manual test kit and switch to reborn if there continues to be a problem.

Potassium at 452 is a little high but not dangerous high.

thank you for your reply.. my salinity is at 1025, so not that high.. happy to hear it isn't dangerously high. I think i will try to change out the media to something that doesn't contain all that extra stuff..

What ICP company? Not all are equivalent.

I agree the potassium is not high enough to do anything, and almost certainly came from your salt mix. What salt mix are you using?

Have you ever measured magnesium yourself?

No problem.

Like Randy said you should try a manual test kit (people seem to like aquaforest for mg) and look if the salt is advertised as higher in mg. If manual test kit also reads high and salt is not suspect then switch to reborn. I doubt it but all I can think of is bad batch/stratification of salt.
