my tyree green polyped leather hasn't opened in probably 2 weeks. its not developing algae on the surface.

before, it never really opened that much during the day, b/c i think a fish kept messing with it.

after i saw the algae developing, i lowered it in the tank (it was too high in the light IMO).

after lowering it, the flow is a little bit lower too, but still nothing, and still algae.

its still upright and looks healthy though. any suggestions?

leathers typically shed a layer of mucous every now and then, usually with a bit of algae on top, but 2 weeks is a bit long for that. run som carbon, do a water change, and feed your fish more. if your sps are lightened from lack of nutrients i can imagine a leather would have trouble with it

good call on the feeding, i keep forgetting about that. already running carbon and skimming as wet as i can get it.

i usually only have this problem after fragging, i have to brush the algae off of it for about a week and then it comes back...

Mine did the same when I first put it in the tank. It was closed for over a week and started getting algae on the base. I kept the algae blown off and found it likes low flow with medium light in my tank. HTH

My leather coral did the same thing. It didn't open up for about two weeks so I removed it from the tank and placed it in my poorly-lit, 10 gallon QT tank. I didn't want it to die and foul my main tank. It ended up recovering and looks fine; I don't think shedding was involved. I don't know whats up with that thing.

Mine did the same when I put it in and is going through it right now. It's been closed for almost two weeks now. I had a gold crown sarco that would close up for 3-4 weeks sometimes and then look great (and start dropping babies, but they were huge to begin with). The gold crown did this once a year. Tempermental...
