Ihave 3 fish and 5 corals lps and soft any id please ??

How you dose your Mg (liquid or just the powder)? What are the other parameters? How do you measure it?

So, you only dose Alk every other day and you dont dose Ca? Can you post a picture of the tank?

Its hard to tell why just Mg is going down while Ca stays up.Sometime coralline algae takes up good amount of Mg but I dont think thats your case. Let me ask others #reefsquad
Tomorrow I will test ca and kh

With so few corals in your tank I would imagine that normal water changes would replenish your uptake ..that being said mg ..can be added more freely than say alk or calc in a tank ..with your alk and calc being on the high end i would raise the mag upto 1350-1400 range .you can safely raise your mag 100 per day without any ill effect ....I would raise the mg higher and see how that goes ..
@GoVols ..Freddie you use the red sea products ..can you lend any insight into this .??

Salifert magnesium is a good test so your numbers are probably correct. It's not going to be biological uptake in this case. Some could be precipitating with calcium carbonate in sump, sand, etc. If the Red Sea product isn't doing it, you could try another like ESV Magnesium or Brightwell Magnesion. The Brightwell product in particular is very concentrated; it must be shaken before use, and will definitely raise your mag when used as directed.

I too would suggest switching to something like B-ionic, and you should be dosing both equally daily.

Usually when I see issues getting mag levels up alk is low, are you testing that regularly w/ good kit like salifert?

Just a thought ...but when using saliferts test with a 1ml reagent ...when filling the syringe too 1ml mark I always check that the airbubble or rather the reagent reads 8.5 every time before I use it ...sometimes this takes a few tries of filling and emptying to achieve this ...this way I know I'm starting from the same point every time....try filling and emptying one a couple of times and see the difference your results are as a test ...

I personally would get a second test kit and check the magnesium level before doing anything dramatic with adding extra magnesium

I’ve used the Red Sea Magnesium test kit for years (and it was inaccurate-it read 1400-1500 most of the time - Triton confirmed 1224ppm!)) and following a Triton ICP test the NYOS Magnesium matched spot on

I use the Red Sea foundation C and I would suggest you re test with a new kit before adding anything as magnesium is depleted very slowly compared to the other elements
