I bought this in October and I noticed that it is losing some of the flesh around the edges. It is in the sand bed with not a lot of light... Can someone help me?

Wow! That's in bad shape. My first suspect is lights. What do you have in the way of lights?

That much skeleton showing is not good. These guys can react to almost anything from lack of food to too much flow to off or swing parameters to getting kicked by something (coral or fish or sand). I have had some luck with saving them, but it is usually not good to see that much skeleton.

What I would do is this: gently remove the coral (make sure to not damage the flesh) and put into a small container of tank water that has this mixture in it: lugols (few drops up to 10 or so depends on amount water, color water yellowish) and coral rx (capful). Leave in for 10 minutes. Remove and place in container of gram negative bacteria and tank water (put airstone in for circulation and o2). Leave in there for 3 to 4hours. Then place back in tank.

Make sure there is low flow and nothing bothering it. I have saved about 6 open brains this way. Only to be eaten by butterfly, but still. The method got them growing and happy again.

Looking back at pic, that hammer maybe stinging it. They can put out good feeders at night. Over 6 inches. Check the distance.

Man, I hate giving brands, but at petsmart or whereever, they will have something with kanamycin, eurithromycin either will work.

No flame I have a tang

They aren't particularly known for it, but Tangs can definitely be nippers. Be sure. [emoji106]

How about anything else "picky" like crabs or snails?

How are your other corals doing? And how frequently do you track your alkalinity and other levels? Any dips or overdoses in the recent past? Is the tank "too clean" by any chance?

Can you elaborate on why a welso in this shape makes you think lights first?

My other corals are doing fine. I test once or twice a week my kh is 9, ammonia -0 nitrate 0, nitrite 0 ,phos is 0.5 alk is 1.025 calcium is 420

Come again with that alk number? ;) How about Mg?

Sounds like the system may be on the nutrient-poor side for a coral like this.

Is there a significant fish poop load as a food supply for him?

Is he in a relatively low-flow zone so he has an easier time feeding and poop is more likely to settle on him? (Not zero-flow...just less flow.)

I don't have a mg test kit but I had a Los test it last week and they said it was okay. He is in a low flow area

The antibiotics are more precautionary and not immediately necessary, but these guys stress easily and can get infections fast such as brown jelly. As far gone as this guy appears, I would do the first protocol for sure and if you want to give time, wait a bit and if no better do the antibiotic treatment. If a jelly like substance forms anywhere, quick treat with antibiotics.

Why oh why all these NO3 0 readings? Are you feeding the guy?
