I picked up an AutoAqua Smart ATO today for my 28g Nano Cube, and it’s doing something strange when I plug it in...

It does the 8 beeps of it starting up, blinks green for a few seconds, and then blinks red rapidly while making an audible beeping noise.

This would normally be a pump connection problem but I made sure the pump was plugged in completely and have done multiple resets. When installing the sensor I put it in a dry part of the rear filter after cleaning the glass. Do you guys have any recommendations? Is it a defective unit or something I’m doing? Thanks!

Hi Nick,

They can be a little temperamental at times. :)
I've had the same problem at times. First off I check the pump intake & make sure it hasn't twisted around against the glass, or any other blockage.
If that's all good, let it do the 8 startup beeps, then when it starts the warning beeps, slowly move the wet side around & it should start pumping water.
I've had trouble lining ours up as I'm looking on a bit of an angle. It looks straight to me but when I climb over the sump it can be 1/2" out lol.

Once it has started to run, let it stop itself as this is a memory setting thing. If you manually move the sensor to stop it will cause error's down the track.
Many people have had that problem.

Good luck :)

@Synodontis

Thank you for the fast reply! I tried moving the wet side to no avail at stopping the beeping... the pump is fine without any kinks in the tube, suctioned to the 5 gallon bucket I’m using as a reservoir.

When I have it at the water level (where it wouldn’t top off) the light is a solid green. It is only when it tries to start the pump that the red light flashes. I’m at a loss for what to do. :(

Ahhh, try this..
Line both the wet & dry side up above the the water line while turned off. So the wet side is not in any water.
Power up & wait for the 8 beeps, the pump should start moving water. If it starts quickly beeping again, move the wet side around as above to make sure it's in line :)
Once the water is moving, give it a bit of time & then slowly slide both the dry & wet side's down together, while still pumping water, to set the level.

It has to be above the water line when first powered up.
