I have a frag of speckled red pe and speckled green pe that have taken a turn for the worse over the last 2 days. Some of the polyp have flipped open and shrunk to the same diameter of the stalk and just under the head it is consticted as if something is choking them. Need a course of action don't have a clue

NOOOO DIPPPPPPP! Let them go through it. This happens to mine about once every two years and only effects a few polyps and they make through it fine, after a few weeks. RPE do not like being dipped from my experience-let it ride and give good wide flow.

I agree... PE type palys hate being dipped... IME, the dip do more harm than good... when I see a problem with my PE type palys, I give them a little more flow and leave them alone...

good luck with them...

if they are bell-shaped.. i've seen that many times with my people eaters. they are upset about something, but they will recover. I've had them take as long as 2 months.. but i've never lost one to it. patience!

I've got them in a bit more flow and will wait and see. Should this start to spred to my other PE frag or something else what would be the next action?

when I see something going wrong with my tank, I normally counter the problem with a few successive water changes... I normally do 1x/week 10%-15% water change for 4 weeks...

update

the greens now look fine, polyps do appear to be a little smaller but are open and look normal again. The reds are looking better, the 2 polyps that looked the worst are now just little grey nubs and the other affected polyp seem to be improving or at least not getting worse.

My stardust PE's aren't bell shaped anymore they are just closed up now. Hopefully they will open soon. But i have 2 other frags from the same colony and they are all normal and open. I wish we can talk to corals and ask them what's wrong. lol

Have you checked you parameters lately Joe? I agree water changes might help a bit as well......I have had mine do that from time to time, I can honestly say that I have all of my PE type corals in mod/high flow. I have not had any issues since then so now when I get PE type corals I just put them in high flow and forget about them and they seem to like it much more then other polyps....

You can talk to corals . . . . you just haven't reached your minimum threshold of psychadelic drug intake. Try increasing your dosage.

My nuclear greens were looking pretty upset for the past few months. The skirts were usually semi-closed. After seeing some comments on here, I moved them towards the bottom of the tank into a more shaded region. They've been very happy since the move, they're always open and the color is better. Under high light, it had a very pale green color, but lower in the tank its a rich green :)

For you guys that said your Stardust PE, and RPEs are forming bell shapes, mine are going through the same thing. But, I noticed little red bugs on mine (see my zoanthid red bug post), and one of my RPEs looks as if have of its skirt has been ate off. Since they started to form bell forms two months ago, they have not grown at all. When I first got them they doubled in months. I was thinking about quarantining these, after a FW dip. But, after this thread I am not to sure what to do.

JoeFish: Have you tried dosing Vit. C to see if it would help your PPE? I started dosing today and was wondering if I am looking forward to what will be nothing more than a negative or neutral effect.
