Hello everyone!

I am trying to get my pygmy wrasse to eat dry food, but for some reason, for the life of me, he/she wont touch any of the dry food. I've had the wrasse for about four months now, but lately the wrasse has been getting pickier with his food lately. The only thing he pretty much eats is PE Mysis shrimp, but the head needs to be cut off because for some reason he wont touch the head of the shrimp. If the mysis is whole, he wont even touch it. When I try to feed dry food such as reef frenzy or the new era food he will not touch it. I want to start feeding dry food since I am not home often to feed them frozen food. I also hate to ask people to come in and thaw the food and cut them. I want to start feeding them with an automatic feeder. Anyways, if anybody can please help me with figuring out how can i make this fish eat dry food I will greatly appreciated. BTW, I'v tried starving the wrasse for about two days and he will still not eat the dry food. I usually feed once or twice a day, depending if I'm home. Sometimes I'll skip a day, very rarely though. I also have a clown and a a firefish that eat like any kind of food I put in the tank. Please Help!

You might find Hikari mysis better suited; it's smaller than PE.

Some fish simply don't ever take to foods other than frozen.

NLS (new life spectrum) pellets would be worth a shot (the 0.5mm or 1mm).

I've tried the NLS pellets, but no luck..... I' not sure on how true this is, but I was told that a strict hakari diet is bad for fish. I also feed rods food, but since the wrasse only eats the mysis with the heads cut off, Ive been feeding them PE mysis more often so I do not have to prepared two containers of food. Thanks!

these are wild animals and will only eat what they want...sorry to say you might be stuck with feeding what he will eat or selling him

Selling him is not an option... anyways thanks for your help. I'll keep trying and hope the wrasse will change his ways.

I have a tanakas pygmy and it has never eaten when I fed. Apparently it eats pods only. It has grown some and seems healthy so it has to be eating something.

Mine LOVES pods... Every once in a while I seed my tank with pods... But anyways I did not know the pygmy wrasse's were picky eaters...

I have had limited success with Liguid Garlic ( Kent Product) Just put just a little on the food.Good Luck. Cool wrasse

I have a 12 line wrasse who loves Marine pro Duraflake (AquaDine) More like a wafer flake. Lees polutinmg than standard flake and does not break up before used up.

Best OF Luck:bigsmile:

Late to see this, but I would not worry at all about getting it to eat prepared foods assuming the tank is large enough. They can survive off eating pods alone (as long as you have some sort of refugium). My Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse only picks at Mysis shrimp. Otherwise it hunts for pods all day. Nice and fat little fish :)

some fish just won't eat it. I have a Bangaii cardinal that won't touch flake or pellets. it will eat only frozen. I started feeding freeze dried blackworms and it went nuts on it.
