Just changed my pre filters this weekend and now the carbon block looks like this. I'm assuming I should replace the carbon again and clean the canister? Or is it OK?

Odd. Looks like a rust spot. Could also be bactiera or algae. Is the filter exposed to a lot of light or sun? Are these Spectrapure filters? If so contact them and they will be more helpful and will most likely send you a replacement. Im lucky to live 20 minutes from them and I can say their CS is truely top notch. Spectrapure and BRS are the only companies I trust for my reef RODI needs.

Filters are from BRS. Probably a good idea to contact them.

No sunlight in the room. This sits in the laundry room, so it's dark most the time. Plus it's only been installed for like 4 days.

For something as cheap as a carbon block I'd replace asap

Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out to us! This can happen from time to time, and would indicate that you most likely have high Iron levels in the water, The carbon block can pull this out of the system, and the Iron will attract to itself, and you will get this pooling effect. This would be rust forming from the Iron but this in no way indicates that there is something wrong with the carbon, but instead is a testament to it doing its job! I would keep running this block until you see a PSI drop due to clogging. Let me know if you need additional information on this. Thank you!

@dragon99, have you figured out what the problem was ? Exact same thing is happening to me right after replacing the filters: brown spots on them and ugly-looking yellowish-brownish water coming out.
