I’m in the final stage of setting up my tank and I have run into a problem involving my skimmer and stand. The necessary water level height for this skimmer is 6”, but my aquarium stand prevents me from getting it any lower than 8”. The result of this is the skimmer completely overflows within seconds of being plugged in. The way the stand is constructed has baffles that prevent me from raising it up the extra 2 inches necessary. We’ve tried cutting into it (the baffles don’t bare any weight of the tank they’re only there for framing purposes), but the way it is plumbed effectively prevents us from doing it.
The only solutions I can think of are either getting an adjustable pump, but there isn’t one on the market that fits this skimmer properly, or getting a collection cup that is slimmer while still fitting the body of the skimmer so I can fit it between the baffles. Only problem with the second solution is that I can’t find the dimensions of the collection cups online anywhere. Does anybody know if there is a collection cup with a base that is 3 and 3/4” across at the base and less than 5” across at its widest point? Probably a long shot, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
