I have a 120 watt aqua ultraviolet sterilizer on my 180 gal tank. This size was recommended to me by my lfs, he said bigger is better when it comes to sterilizers and manufacturer's under estimate the proper size. I now think it may be too big and I should of went with the next size smaller. Anyway, I cleaned it for the first time after 6 months and now 4 months later, every time when I do my water changes and turn everything back on the uv sterilizer has a white cloud coming out of it. And the water stays cloudy for a day or two before clearing up. Does anyone know what is causing this?

I know mine will build up with calcium precipitation after a while. I have to scrape off the calcium build up on the crystal sleeve, otherwise it will get very thick, reducing the lamps effectiveness.

Could be calcium build up being thrown out at start up.
